Snowmaking: Friday Update

Here's the scoop - Right now we are making snow on the Belt top to bottom, Minya, Lower Xover. We are concentrating on these trail with all we can so that they will be opened up on Saturday.

Saturday we will try our best to get out of everybody's way but this early in the season we still have to take advantage of the weather so there will be some guns on the opened trails. We will move to the terrain park, Ike, Boston Road, and maybe the Cliff or Heuga?? (depends on the wind), if everything goes right.

The weather looks good with some COLD weather so this will give us a big boost in getting more terrain opened.

Forget Christmas shopping at the malls come take advantage of the early season snow with no crowds out there, while your here buy your presents: Big Lift Card, Winter Card, or stop by the ski shop!

- Bruce

ALSO: For those of you who were wondering about the Quad, it's currently operating and has been repaired. Thanks for your patience!

Wednesday Snowmaking Update

Last night the weatherman's prediction was a little off. The low temps on top hit this morning at 6:00 am with a low of 21, the bottom hit a frigid 28 so with that it was not a very stellar night.

Up and coming we will start up again Thursday with predictions of some cold air moving in after a brief warm-up Wednesday night, the plan remains the same get more terrain opened: Minya, Lower Xover, Mossy And The Belt .

Lets hope that Mother Nature will gives us a break when and if she does we are ready to move. If anybody out there knows any dances or spells for cold weather, lets do it...we need some Help with the weather!

Snowmaking Update

Bruce, our snowmaking manager and unofficial video correspondent, sent a message over for posting today...here it is!

Well we survived the rains that Heinz field in Pittsburgh could not, yes we lot some snow but we are still in great shape and recovery will be quick 1 night and then ready to start the big moves.

Tuesday 27th we will be starting up in the afternoon as the temps drop hopefully we will be up and running by 4:00 PM. Tonight we will be on HBK and off Broadway, Madison, Mossy.

The weather for tonight will be cold enough to resurface what we have with some powder and position us for the next big moves, which will be on Thursday. The temps on Wed. are not good so we will start up on Thursday.

The next move we will be going to the Belt, Minya, Lower Xover, Ike.

This hopefully will all be opened by Saturday if the Mother Nature gives us a break. The long range looks good and with this we will be able to really start getting some terrain opened up.

So get ready.

Today: Hunter One, Tomorrow: Off-Broadway, Madison and more!

Good morning everyone!

I wanted to post some photos from I took early this morning, and also give you the info about snowmaking for today, tonight and tomorrow.

We're blowing in the same areas at the moment, as it is very cold and perfect snowmaking weather. The weather still looks good, but snowmaking will probably only be at night during the week, as day temps are in the high 30's and low 40's.

The below photos are snowguns on Hunter One.

Later this afternoon or tonight, weather permitting, snowmaking will continue through the night, and for tomorrow, there's a good possibility of having the Off Broadway, Madison, and maybe even Mossy Brook open.

Stay tuned for more information. We're working on getting the open lifts & trails page up, but have some issues with our website....I know some people are having some problems, and we are doing what we can to iron out the problems....so have patience, and keep checking back!

A Fantastic Friday at Hunter Mountain!

We have had an amazing Friday here at Hunter, and are now making snow on Kennedy, Hunter One, Madison and Mid-station. We plan to run the guns right through to tomorrow, and keep them going as long as possible.

C-Lift/Hunter One

There is a very good possibility of running C Lift tomorrow, and the Quad and F-lift will be running as well....Kennedy will be open as long as temps stay down tonight (here in Hunter, we're looking at a night time low of between 10 and 15 degrees!).

Guns on Hunter One, mid-morning.

I got some pretty cool shots today (among them are the ones in this post, all taken around 10am this morning). Remember: if YOU have a great photo of Hunter, send it in! Also check back, as our webmaster Steve has taken a bunch of photos every day and posted them on the site.

This weekend: Colder Temps, More Terrain, Live Entertainment & More!

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving from Hunter! Yesterday's opening day was fantastic, and we'd like to thank everyone who came out to ski or ride. The snow is still in good condition, despite the balmy weather, and we're going to make more snow and open more terrain as soon as temps lower (tonight) and possibly have more terrain for the weekend.

The current NOAA forecast shows that temperatures will drop into the low 20's and as low as 11 degrees on Friday night....so think snow(making)!

Head over to the Hunterblog or the website for photos and video from yesterday!

This weekend, we're also going to have extended bar hours and live entertainment: on Saturday, Paradise Alley will be performing from 4-7pm in the Main Bar area. The bar will be open until 8pm, and if you like the band, head over to O'Neill's for their second performance, kicking off at 10pm and ending at 1am!

We here at Hunter plan to host plenty of live entertainment through the season, so keep checking back for an entertainment listing, or continue to Paradise Alley's website to read more about them!!

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more info!

Some more shots from today, from Bruce...we've had an amazing opening day, and thanks so much to everyone who came out!

Some shots from opening day!

It's a great opening day here at Hunter Mountain...temps are in the high 40's, but thanks to our Snowmakers, their decision to make snow from summit to Mid-Station was a great one, and we haven't lost much cover, if any! Our base depth exceeds 48," so there is plenty of snow for everyone!

Enjoy the photos, and keep checking back for more updates!

Snowflakes in Hunter!

Hello again everyone! For the last two days, the area has seen numerous periods of flurries, some even lightly blanketing the ground with snow.

If you check the NOAA forecast, you will see that there is snow likely throughout the rest of the week, and the weather is definitely cooling down (it is currently 37 degrees).

Check back soon for more updates!

What everyone's wondering!

Hello everyone! As the weather gets progressively colder, and the season lurks closer and closer, more people ask me when the resort will open. At present time, everyone gets the same answer: keep an eye on the weather, and keep checking back. At this particular time, we do not have a set opening date, and it's too soon to tell when the weather will turn to become continuously cold.

I will say that NOAA's forecast this morning showed a chance of snow showers in the area starting Wednesday and continuing through the week. We will certainly not be opening this week, but residents may see a few puffs of white when we test our snowmaking system...so keep a look out.

Next week, I'll probably update the Snow Phone, so that will be another source of information as we get closer and closer to our opening day. In the meantime, check out the new website, pick up a Winter Card, and keep on keepin' on!
