Hi Jessica,
When the Mooseknuckle's came up last year we went to Slopes. Unfortunately, it seemed like the people there were playing for the pink team. Where do you go out Jess?

snowmaking was up today... are any trails are expected to be hit besides jimmy huega/dropoff and minya konka?

Yeah, we're going to try to reblanket everything we can, even Hunter One, Belt, etc. Everything could use some more snow -- they're going to keep going through tomorrow morning if it stays cold enough.

HAHAHA. The pink team huh? I don't generally go to Slopes (not too often anyway), but it is the favorite around here. I like the Spinning Room...more drinking, less...well...nevermind. And the door guy is from Newark. Next time ask me first (via e-mail), I'll suggest a few places.

The condition page says frozen granular/hard pack. With nightly snowmaking and day temps in 40s with sun, will the conditions be PP/loose granular tomorrow (thurs)?

Have the evil groomers annihilated all signs of precious moguls? Even Belleayre keeps a trail or 2 ungroomed with moguls.

I can't wait to come up to Hunter Mountain...I miss having the chili mixed with mac and cheese. My friends and I call it Chili-Mac!

Snow reporting is very complicated. My reasoning for FG/HP is this: the guns shut off early in the morning because temperatures rose fast today. By the time the mountain was opened, the powder was being packed into the ground and the reflection of the sun was beginning to melt the loosely packed areas. There's also skier traffic to consider: it's Wednesday, with nice weather, so there is high traffic. I don't deny that any other resort would say PP if their guns had been on, but with the temps rising from 20 to 45 today in the span of a few hours, plus the amount of people and sunlight/clear skies, as nice as PP sounds, it would not be correct.

I didn't do the report today, so I don't know what Rob said. Wednesday is generally my day off...

As for forecasts, we're hearing it will get cold next week. Some precip at the end of this week...probably not much up here though.

FYI, tomorrow, conditions will probably be FG/HP because of the warm temps today but I really can't say until I get in there and take a look at the patrol reports from today. The snow looked good when I was up there today...the head of ski patrol told me to get my skis and get out there ASAP. Tomorrow should be really nice. We've got some bumps too...so no worries!

since its going to rain on friday and saturday are the slopes going to loose a lot of snow

Jessica said...

Nope, it's not going to rain that hard. It rained wicked hard last weekend, we didn't lose much of anything, so no worries for this weekend.
