Any idea whether the snow tubing place will be open this weekend?

Hi David,

Snowtubing is still scheduled to open on Saturday. As you know nothing is ever 100%, but we are still expecting to open it!

You should announce the weekly winners also!

Go Tedd!!! To our fearless Mooseknuckle leader....

Jessica,

Please tell me the snow report is wrong about snowmaking. If it is true, something is wrong, as you guys should have 1100 guns going at 3 degrees. On a positive note, keep up the video of the day...

Seriously, what is up with "pic of the day" NOT being updated everyday! Last pic update is the 13th and today is the 17th! Also, the mountain better be blowing hardcore like the last Anonymous person posted!! Wake up Hunter, it is JANUARY!!!! Crank that new pump system up and ALL 1100 guns or there will definitely NOT be great spring session and THEN I WILL WANT A REFUND ON MY SEASON PASS!

No worries. I just deleted the whole thread. I don't want to be a part of the griping. The snow is lovely today, so go out and ski or ride :)

MAKE SNOW ON UPPER CROSSOVER

the freestyle team needs to practice, and you gotta have good moguls at a mountain,

by the way good job on snowmaking

Yo Hunter Staff,
Keep up the fantastic work!! The snow is excellent and considering the abnormal season, your coverage is descent!! Some people should relax and be thankful for man-made snow at all. East-coasters are all always taking that for granted! I wish everyone could realize that making snow is not cheap and takes some time. Come on people, stop moaning and have fun. Get out and ride instead of pecking your complaints away on these keyboards. Hey Jessica, Nice Boots!
Keep Smiling,

Skied for two hours this afternoon and it was wonderful. No people and lots of manmade freshies.

However I was very disappointed about the lack of expansion of snowmaking on the upper mountain. Recovering the existing trails is great but I guareentee this weekend will be extra crowed due to pent demand and people wanting to go skiing. The lift lines might not be bad but the denisity of people on the slopes of the upper mountain will be. A lot of effort went into Hunter 1 and Belt parkway but no cliff, upper k, racers, clairs, upper xover or even gunhill. Not good.

I can understand that lower K and purna are not priorities but in all seriousness, Hunter has built an outstanding reputation amoung Hardcore skiers on the east coast. There simply is no better upper level terrain south of killington VT. In addition the commitment to making snow (alot)on those trails has always been there in the past but the last few years a lot of people including me think that managents focus is on selling real estate and not on improving the mountain or snowmaking. This is short sited

No question that this has been an abnormal season. I can not remember it ever being this warm for this long during Dec and Jan. But I think Hunter is forgeting about its core base of customers.

Windham and Bellayre are blowing more guns and covering more terrain than Hunter is. When jas this ever happened before. In my life time never! I am older than the ski area BTW. Bellayre is owned by the state and Windham has new owners that want to make an impression and they certainly are.

Purna never opened last year though there were plenty of oppportunities to do so.

The conditions for making snow have never been better than the last few days. Low temperatures, low humidity. Unfortunately the guns were not going at 100% of capacity. I know several people that are going to Windham on Saturday. These are the same people that scofed at the mere mention of the name Windham in the past

This is not a whine or a rant. Take it for what it is, an observation and opinion.

While nothing ever stays the same if Hunter takes its core customers for granted than in the end those customers start to look elsewhere. Its a downward spiral with an unfortunate end. Lets hope it does not go that way.

Why would you guys shut down snowmaking when it is cold enough! I understand it is more efficient to make snow when it is colder, but this year does not afford us that luxury! Sometimes I wonder...

Jessica said...

What are you talking about??? We are blowing snow right now!!!

Anonymous said...

Read the conditions page! It says snowmaking is shutting down this morning and will resume Friday night!

Anonymous said...

Hey Jessica,
Actually the conditions reports says the Mtn. will be shutting down snowmaking until friday night. It reports more snowmaking will resume to spread cover to new trails. For those who don't know, temperatures are not the only statistic looked at for determining snowmaking plans. Windspeed and humidity are all very important and the wet bulb temp. is what is monitored more often. Look at what trails are open, stop complaining, smack a smile on and go ride. The Mtn. staf cannot continuely be blamed for mother nature's doing. Think more positive thoughts and you may get better results.

I read on your site that Tubing will not start in 1/27. Is that true. Will it open sooner? Thanks for the updates.

Anonymous said...

jess, I think the last comment was because the conditions page shows no snowmaking. keep up the good work (answering e-mails at 12 am?) you guys are great!!!

Anonymous said...

new poster, but I checked the website and it clearly says you have shut down snowmaking until Friday night. I don't get it either....

Anonymous said...

The web site said that Hunter is shutting down snowmaking till Friday afternoon. Temps are fine, so I'm assuming that water usage restrictions must be the culprit. Am I right? Any scoop on if new terrain will open for the weekend?
Great job maintaining such a large selection of trails durring such a warm winter!

When I first got on the chairlift about 2.5 hours ago, the guns were still going. They did shut down shortly after, so excuuuuuuse me! Jeez.

And yes, there is high wind today but guys, seriously, STOP WHINING and get out there. The snow is PERFECT. Rob and I made a video, we'll put it up later today.
