Waiting for the weather...

I figured since everyone is wondering when we'll be open, I'd take a picture and let everyone know what we're dealing with right now.

FIRST, we do not have an opening date! People please read this BEFORE you email me and ask me! We will probably be open by Thanksgiving. Depending on the weather, it could be before or after that, but we have not locked in a date, due to the rain. Once we do have a date, we will let you know! Yes, we know everyone else is opening on the 17th. That's ok. We promise the wait will be worth it, if there is one!

Accuweather says it's going to rain all the way through Sunday, so we're waiting another week before we bust out the snowguns. I know, I know -- why have other mountains blown snow? Here at Hunter we figure it's more cost-effective and less disappointing to wait until the bad weather blows over, than to blow snow and have our beloved skiers and riders watch it melt in the rain!

With that said, here's a picture of what it looks like here in Hunter today. Very wet, very foggy, very not cool:

Again, no opening date yet, but watch for the snowguns next week -- and if you don't live nearby, don't worry -- I'll be posting pictures!

yeah, so its pretty annoying that the weather report for the upcoming week always changes and now the lows aren't even in the 30's. i'm glad i bought two season passes this year... :(

Yeah, I know. It sucks, but we're hoping it'll cool down last week.

Smart call to hold off on the snow making. Other areas might have "tested" the equipment but unless we get a solid cold snap, no one is opening anytime soon. We all know once the cold gets here, Hunter will provide the snow!

Thanks for your support and understanding. I know a lot of people are peeved but we are really just trying to do the best thing for us and for our customers.

hey what are the odds that some snow is gonna be made during the nights that its in the low 30's upper 20's even if the high for the day is in the 40's?

It is something that is definitely done....however, I think we will probably end up waiting. At this point it looks like the temp is going to drop sometime next week and stay cold throughout the day and night. We'll see though!
