Updates & News

Hello everyone! It's been a fantastic Tuesday here at Hunter, with great conditions and occasionally sunny blue skies. There hasn't been any precipitation since Sunday night's storm, and if you take a look at the NOAA forecast, nothing treacherous is heading our way, despite "three day winter storm warnings." Tomorrow mid-morning and afternoon, the clouds will clear and we'll have some blue skies and sunlight.

There's another storm heading towards the Northeast for the weekend, so it looks like we may get some snow out of it.

Some of you may appreciate this photo...

As for conditions, we will be grooming either tonight or tomorrow morning. 30 trails were open and 4 lifts were running today, after grooming of all open terrain last night.

Many of you have asked me about road conditions and driving, and the roads are fine, and probably will be no issue tomorrow. Some of the lots here (paid parking, etc) are a bit icy so please be careful unloading and walking through the lots, though the main lot and bus lot are fine. If you are driving up and concerned about the roads, you can call the operator at 800-HunterMtn and she will tell you what she can.

The quad is still not operational, but F and B are running fine and people are pleased with the conditions...check back for more updates as the week continues! Tomorrow afternoon or evening, we are planning on starting up snowmaking again, too.

I was up last weekend, conditions were great. Good job with the snow making!

Do you think the quad will be open by saturday?

The lack of information about the broken quad is frustrating. I for one would really like to know what happened to it, when it will be fixed, and if you expect the quad breakdowns to continue throughout the season? Thank you.

We're testing the quad on Friday. The motor was fit today. That's all I know, guys. If I had any more information, I would've posted it. We replaced the motor, and will be testing it on Friday. We hope to have it running by the weekend.

Was that the secondary motor that went? I know my uncle mentioned a few years back you guys blew a motor friday at 2 and were able to get a motor over nighted from Cleavland and got the quad up and running by 9am Saturday. Something different this time?

also, saturday, z lift broke down too. so its not just the quad.

although it doesn't seem like it should be a state secret if the quad going to be open, more importantly: is clairs going to be open?

its so hard to figure out from the web site what and where they are blowing and what the plans are. it seems to me that someone there knows what is going on with trail openings.

also, with the quad down, it would be really nice if they'd open up the upper snack bar. this way we don't have to go down to the bottom to get food. when are you planning on opening the upper snack bar?

sorry to seem like i am complaining. i was up last weekend, and the conditions were amazing. the snowmakers are doing a fantastic job. also, with the quad down, the mountain was really empty, it made for some especially great skiing.

keep up the good work, just try to get us more info!

Can't wait for the quad to open so I can drive up to buy some of that great macaroni and cheese from the cafeteria.

Was hoping to view the Aurora Borealis from the quad Sat. night but they got it running just in time to get us off.

Will try again this weekend, can't wait!

The thing that I think a lot of people don't understand is that we really DON'T know what will be open. With clear, cold weather, sure, we could commit to Claire's. With a 10-20" dump, we could also commit. We have two storm systems passing through and there's no way we can know what's going to happen. This industry has had this kind of uncertainty since its existence, and there's no way to avoid it.

As for the quad, it's not a "state secret." I can only gather so much information, and people can only GIVE me so much information. Lift Maintenance is test running the quad tomorrow. That is the last thing I've heard from them. I know it's difficult to find exactly what is happening, but no one ever knows until the last minute, when ski patrol opens trails. It's the nature of the business. I would definitely come up this weekend, simply by the forecast and massive amounts of snow. If it snows that much, we will be opening more terrain.

maybe the web cam can be installed with the new motor for the quad - it would be nice to see the storm via the cam - lets hope for a really dump

I think everyone needs to chill, stop complaining and just enjoy the fact that it is mid December and you have the ability to get out and make some turns. I hope that doesn't sound too rude, it is not my intention to offend. Let's just thank the great staff of Hunter and pray for tons of snow with this next storm. Peace.

Chill, that's exactly what I got for riding the quad, but that sweet lunch of hot, homemade Hunter Mtn. soup from the great kitchen staff made it all worthwhile.

Hope to lay some sweet tracks in the fresh pow through the new Milky Glades, I'm sure there will be quite a swinging crowd on the F-lift to watch it all. Followed up by some suds from the studs at the bar to soothe the aches, pains and quad withdrawl.

wow seeing as you guys are going to get up to 1 foot of snow tonight and some more on Sunday i may just have to skip my cousin's wedding on Saturday. Hopefully the quad will be fixed by then and hopefully Clair's too.

Is anyone restocking the panty tree while the quad is down?

Glad to hear a new motor is on its way. Skiied last weekend and had a great time - even without the quad, there was plenty to choose from.

I sure hope D lift is running tomorrow. Looks like a crowd is coming.
