Eye candy from the summit!

I know you guys can't wait to see what's going on up here...the parking lot is already full of people who have driven up to take pictures! So, to keep you all updated, I rode up to the summit today via F-Lift and took some pictures of what's going on. Enjoy, and more to come! Click on the images for larger versions:

FYI, if you haven't heard, we started blowing snow on Saturday night, but there is still no opening date...Thursday or Friday are possibilities. Check back soon for more info!

Will you all offer skiing if the snow doesn't get all the way to the base? Meaning, do you download?

Jessica said...

Generally no. We'll have to blow snow all the way down. Having only F-Lift open makes it very difficult for people to get back down.

why can Windham blow to the bottom and not Hunter?

Jessica said...

I don't remember saying we couldn't blow snow at the bottom....??

have you guys been blowing snow all day today or just overnight?

Jessica said...

We started on Saturday night, then stopped, then started again Sunday night into today.

not that i know much about snow making... but it would be realllllly cool if even during the warmer days u still made snow overnight since the lows are still cold. :)

Blowing snow during the night with warm daytime temperatures is not useful. The snow melts during the day, and all of the resources and effort invested to make the snow and set up the guns is wasted.

so basically when it gets warmer towards the end of the week there wont be anymore snowmaking overnight. so then what happens? it kinda seems like making snow now is gonna be a waste if its just gonna melt by the end of the week and more snow wont me made at night to sustain it

It would be a problem if it was going to get warmer, but from what we're hearing it's not going to get warm enough to melt our snow.

We took so long blowing snow because it would have been a waste to blow so early. It's surprising to me that someone would act as if we were wasting resources when we've been very obviously conscious of the weather so far.

Either way, I wouldn't worry too much.

ouch. no need to get heated!

Jessica said...

It's not heated. I'm just trying to be as frank as possible. :)

jess...
dont stress bout other peoples comments... you are the first inside link to hunter that the majority of hunter-ites have!
no other year, had we,ski-junkies scuse me...boarders 2!} had an inside line to the inner-workings of hunter.
i think you are doing a great job, being a spokes-person for a mountain that had no REAL internet 'voice' before.
snow WILL come... real or created...and people are frustrated waiting, but the fact that i can come come home and log on to see what you have ,info-wise,and dont have to rely on accu-cast is a major bonus to most people!
on a different note, we were up there this past weekend opening up our new skihouse,we picked up our season passes, and my photo is disgraceful,but... we had dinner in the kaaterskill mountain club on saturday night, and we re-met Gerry, the genial bartender from the lodge, the service was fantastic, food was great...but...LOWER THE LIGHTS! We felt that we were dining in a fast food joint-just because the lighting was SO bright.
Other than that, we had a lovely time, and will go back, ...as long as you do something with the 'high beams'.
please excuse my very long blog guys, being up there, even with no snow, stirrs me up to the point where i bore non-skiers.
PRAY FOR COLD
PRAY FOR SNOW
MORE IMPORTANTLY...
PRAY FOR THOSE YOU LOVE!

Thanks for the post. I'm glad everyone is enjoying the new online content. I'm happy to be able to give everyone an inside track.

Hey andraste777 - you're a wee bit off base with the inside internet voice comment ... we in fact did have one of the Best DOM folks a couple of years back, who was very tuned in to and available for the skiers and boarders of Hunter ... ahhh, but times move on and it's certainly good to see some sort of communications open up again after the mountain's message board was shut down
